Disease in Trees

Black KnotBlack Knot is commonly found on Cherry Trees and Maydays.  You will see a sort of Black area form on the tree that is highly contagious to other trees of the same kind in the area.  It is an air borne disease and can travel great distance and infect other trees.

To get rid of Black Knot, you will need to trim out the infected area about 3 inches below the knot.  Tools must be sterilized after each cut in a mixture of bleach and water.  To dispose of the branches, it is best to take it to a burn pile.

Dutch Elm Disease-

Spider Mites- commonly found on Cedars or spruce trees can be controlled by soaking the tree from top to bottom with water at least once per week.
